My Morning Ritual

Witnessing Life's Splendors Blooming On
17

It’s funny that I’m writing to you about my morning ritual sitting in a hotel lobby in Mexico at 6am… I know, it’s not really what people have in mind when thinking about vacation, or at least, the concept of it! But I do love that early moment of the day when most people are still asleep or slowly starting to figure out what may be ahead for them to experience. My body, or probably my brain trying to stretch its crazy cerebral activities for better or worse, wakes me up between 5 am and 6 am, which I’ve learned to appreciate, no matter the time I would have crashed the night before. Thankfully, I don’t need much sleep to operate… Never did.

In fact, being “on” that early is like being the most privileged witness of life blooming. The spectacle never disappoints… The emerging colors, the birds, even “silence” has a different tone in that instant. You can feel the vibrations of the day awakening, filled with so many promises to unfold, so much life to dwell on. Everything is up for grabs. You can define and redefine your own existence between 5 and 6. You’re ahead of time and free from its implacable traction, in a way. You are the sun and the moon of your own tidal motion, a master of all, before accepting that you aren’t master of much (if anything), as time takes its rightful course. But regardless of the naivety and illusion that this is, it’s an empowering sensation to know that you are an intrinsic part of the burgeoning fabric of the day.

As you will see through my series of daily rituals, once I set myself into dawn’s soulful rhythm, that I have a musing and reflective “me” time to align my thoughts with my vision, it’s you, my precious friends and loved ones, that I have in mind, through postcards, audio clips, messages of all sorts. That’s what makes me happy.

And you, what is your morning ritual?
